A new era of district heating thinking?

Economic feasibility of supra-regional connections of existing district heating networks.

Regional decarbonisation is essential for achieving climate neutrality.
We asked ourselves whether connecting existing district heating networks is a viable way to reduce CO₂ emissions. Connecting existing heating plants not only has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions, but also to reduce overall heat generation costs and increase security of supply.
According to our Heat Merit Order model, the optimised use of heat generation units leads to an average annual reduction in total costs of 16.3% and an average annual reduction in CO₂ emissions of 15%.
