On Monday, 15 September, the kick-off meeting for the Future Heat Highway (FHHW) project was held on the JKU campus.
A virtual kick-off meeting had already taken place before the summer, and the meeting in Linz followed this. Around 50 participants gathered to lay the foundation for the heat transition together.
Future Heat Highway: sharing existing resources
The big question: How can the heat transition be achieved?
One key lies in the use of industrial waste heat. Under the leadership of the Energieinstitut an der JKU Linz, a consortium of 28 partners is working to establish supra-regional heating networks and utilise unused waste heat sensibly.
In the Central Linz, Styria (Mur and Mürztal valleys and the Graz area), Salzkammergut and St. Pölten regions, large-scale use of industrial waste heat is planned for a sustainable and efficient heat supply.
Funded by the Klima- und Energiefonds and the regional government of Upper Austria, this project is an important step towards decarbonising Austria’s heat supply.
