The project “H2 meets H2O” serves to explore the possibilities of a climate-neutral hydrogen supply along the Danube. The aim is to assess the feasibility and usefulness of a hydrogen supply based on the Danube logistics axis from a technical, legal and socio-economic perspective. The logistical basis for a subsequent R&D project with innovative pilot applications is to be created, based on a multimodal supply concept with inland vessels, rail, and trucks. Hydrogen is not only to be used as a freight, but also as an alternative fuel, so that a reduction of emissions and immissions in the area of freight mobility can be achieved.
The key unique selling points of the project are the comprehensive networking of relevant stakeholders in several workshops, the multi-sectoral approach, the exploitation of the development potential of ports as hydrogen hubs, as well as the consideration of an international roll-out of the solution approaches in the Danube region.
