The project aims to develop and demonstrate the first emission-free 40-tonne fuel cell truck in the world. The developed fuel cell truck will fully meet the requirements of commercial vehicles in terms of performance, efficiency, reliability and durability. The FC4HD fuel cell truck will be demonstrated in real-life operation for 6 months in Austria. Not only will the technical performance be validated, but also the economic and environmental impact of the introduction will be considered. A special focus will be on preparing the international market launch. In order to achieve these far-reaching project goals, the consortium includes leading Austrian companies in technology development and logistics, research institutions in the field of green hydrogen, as well as international players. As part of the project, the Energieinstitut an der JKU Linz is investigating the opportunities for market introduction from a macroeconomic and legal point of view, as well as the ecological effects that could result from the introduction of fuel cell trucks in Austria.
