In ReHyB, the recycling of green hydrogen from industrial chip production and the development of an associated filling station infrastructure for refueling buses as well as cars and, for the first time, trucks are planned. The long-term goal is to set up a hydrogen infrastructure for the double use of the green hydrogen produced (H2Pioneer) from the chip manufacturing process (or epitaxy process) at the Infineon Technologies Austria AG factory in Villach. The hydrogen is extracted after the manufacturing process and then cleaned according to the quality requirements of mobility. By setting up a 350/700 bar filling station infrastructure, buses, cars and trucks can be refueled on site. The project aims to create the technological and economic basis for a successful construction of this coupled hydrogen infrastructure. However, the construction itself is not the aim of the project.
In the project, the Energieinstitut is primarily working on the techno-economic, macro-economic and ecological aspects of the examined system. This includes both the analysis of the export potential of the ReHyB system and the corresponding future cost characteristics. In addition, the economic effects that can result from the construction of the plants and from a technology rollout and the establishment of a national value chain. In the life cycle analysis, particular attention will be paid to identifying environmental hotspots and potential for optimization.
