Seasonal heat storage for climate-friendly urban heat supply

In the HEATROCK research project led by Melanie Hörtler (Hoertler) from LINZ AG and in collaboration with other Austrian project partners, we are investigating innovative solutions for seasonal heat storage in district heating systems. The project examines the technical, ecological, economic, and legal aspects of hot water storage in caverns in crystalline rock.

A publication on this topic has now appeared in the Berg- und Hüttenmännisches Monatsheft (Mining and Metallurgy Monthly): https://lnkd.in/esgwYeid

HEATROCK project partners of the Energy Institute at JKU Linz are: LINZ AG, AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, Laabmayr ZT GmbH, and Montanuniversität Leoben
The project is funded by the Climate and Energy Fund.

The Energy Institute is evaluating the legal feasibility and environmental impact of the large-scale storage facility, stakeholder acceptance, and macroeconomic benefits.
