CaCTUS Stakeholder Workshop

On April 6, a large stakeholder workshop was held at GeoSphere Austria as part of the CaCTUS research project with denkstatt Austria and the University of Leoben. Under the organization and moderation of Nikolas Sachs, representatives of science, industry and politics came together to discuss Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (#ccus) and its future and potentials in Austria.

The core of this workshop were two discussion rounds to identify framework conditions from a company perspective in order to break down barriers to CCU and CCS and to exploit potentials. Technical input was provided by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Markus Lehner (MUL-VTIU) on Carbon Capture and Mag.a Argjenta Veseli (EI-JKU Linz) on the legal framework of CCS and CCU in Austria and the EU. The results of this research project section will be drafted into a “Policy Brief”, a recommendation for (legal) framework conditions and forwarded to the Climate and Energy Fund and subsequently to the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation & Technology.

Many thanks also from our side for the great organization of the CaCTUS workshop by denkstatt Austria. We would also like to thank the numerous participants and the many inputs as well as the project team! We are happy to be able to lead such a promising project and to work on its content!
