Workshop 20.6.24

Workshop invitation: Biorefining meets circular economy

We invite you to two workshops as part of the cooperation of IEA Bioenergy Task 42 (participation of the Energienstitut an der JKU Linz) and BioBASE where experts from various fields such as research, industry, plant construction, waste management companies and public institutions will come together to discuss current challenges for the entire value chain around biorefineries in a circular economy, explore their future potential in Austria and bring best-practice examples to the fore in an innovative environment.

Focus I: More added value from secondary raw materials

June 20, 2024, Linz Tabakfabrik, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The first event will focus on the legal framework and barriers as well as the potential for using waste for higher value-added processes and the presentation of successful case studies.

Registration for June 20 under the following link: https://biobase.at/veranstaltungen/biorefining-meets-circular-economy-mehr-wertschopfung-aus-sekundarrohstoffen/

Participation free of charge! – Limited number of participants!

  • Availability and importance of food residues and market development for new value-added paths by Sonja Siegl (BioBASE)
  • Best-practice examples from practice from technology development, raw material processing to the product with, among others:
    1. Andreas Schnitzhofer (GIG Karasek) on technological developments and testing opportunities
    2. Philip Pauer (Reploid) on insect protein from food waste,
    3. Christian Hutterer (Austrocel) on the wood-based biorefinery at Austrocel Hallein
    4. Tobias Keplinger (Agrobiogel) on improving water retention capacity on the basis of lignosulfonate
    5. Representative of Gösser/AEEIntec on the extraction of proteins from by-products of food production.

From 3 p.m. there will be the opportunity for further networking over coffee and cake.

Focus II: Upcycling using future-oriented technologies

(planned for mid-October 2024)

The second session will focus on upcycling using future-oriented technologies to drive forward the circular economy and provide decarbonized products.

Participation in the tasks in IEA Bioenergy is funded as part of the IEA research cooperation of the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology. The events are national networking meetings for biorefinery stakeholders in Austria and are organized jointly with the BioBASE innovation platform for the bioeconomy and circular economy.
