Commissioning of the first geological hydrogen storage facility

Seasonal electricity and energy storage systems are a central component of the future energy system. Yesterday, a significant milestone in this regard was realized with our participation: the ceremonial commissioning of the world’s first geological hydrogen storage facility “Underground Sun.Storage 2030” in Rubensdorf bei Gampern.

Andreas Zauner, Marie-Theres Holzleitner and Robert Tichler were present at the ceremonial opening of the storage facility and discussed, among other things, the future use cases and business models as well as the necessary regulatory steps with many experts.

We would like to thank our cooperation partners – first of all RAG Austria AG, but of course also Energie AG OÖ, voestalpine, VERBUND AG, EVN, Vienna University of Technology, Axiom, K1-MET GmbH, VEREIN WIVA P&G – WASSERSTOFFINITIATIVE VORZEIGEREGION AUSTRIA POWER & GAS, HyCentA Research GmbH as well as FFG Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft mbH and Klima- und Energiefonds for this successful R&D cooperation and are looking forward to the next research and implementation steps.
