EU-Project TREASURE: Kick-off Meeting in Graz

Our colleagues Simon Moser, Stefan Puschnigg, Anja Gahleitner and Gjin Muja are currently at the three-day kick-off meeting in Graz. As part of the EU project TREASURE, seasonal heat storage systems (specifically pit thermal energy storages, or PTES for short) are being evaluated and further developed. This evaluation is being carried out as part of various demonstration projects with storage capacities of up to 500,000 m³.

The importance of this initiative lies in bridging the temporal discrepancy between supply and demand and thus maximizing the share of renewable energies and waste heat in the heating sector. Large seasonal thermal energy storage systems are expected to play a central role in district heating networks.

Within the project, the Energieinstitut an der JKU Linz is leading work package 6, contributing our expertise in analyzing the ecological and economic aspects of PTES.

We are thrilled to be part of this exciting project and look forward to working with the project partners to develop these sustainable solutions.
