The Energieinstitut endows new professorship at JKU’s Future Energy Lab

Provincial Councillor for Economics and Research Markus Achleitner: “With the research results of the new endowed professorship ‘Energy Economics and Applied Econometrics’ at the Future Energy Lab of the Linz Institute of Technology (LIT) at the JKU Linz, the energy transition can be implemented even faster”

The new endowed professorship in “Energy Economics and Applied Econometrics” at the Future Energy Lab of the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz will further intensify energy research in Upper Austria. The professorship was endowed by the Energieinstitut an der JKU Linz, whose 40 researchers are already making significant contributions to the further development of the energy system. “The promotion of energy research is an essential component for the further development of Upper Austria as a centre of business, industry and research. I am therefore particularly pleased that this new professorship for energy economics and applied econometrics at the Future Energy Lab has been realised in cooperation between the Johannes Kepler University and the Energieinstitut an der JKU Linz,” said Markus Achleitner, Provincial Councillor for Economic Affairs and Energy, who is also President of the Energieinstitut an der JKU Linz, commenting on the new professorship. “The research results will make an important contribution to accelerating the implementation of the energy transition,” said Achleitner.

At the Future Energy Lab of the Linz Institute of Technology (LIT) at the JKU, the position of the JKU and Upper Austria in energy research is now being expanded under the leadership of Prof. Dr Johannes Reichl. The Future Energy Lab will focus intensively on developing new methods and tools for a better understanding of the socio-economic and economic effects of new technologies and systems on our economy and society. The endowed professorship will initially be funded for a period of five years.

“The endowed professorship will enable basic research across faculties and disciplines at the JKU to gain a deeper understanding of the requirements of the energy transition. By generating new insights, the Future Energy Lab will accelerate the implementation of the transformation of the energy system in the future,” confirms Johannes Reichl. At the Energieinstitut an der JKU Linz, Johannes Reichl will also continue to act as Scientific Director of the Department of Energy Economics.

“At the Energieinstitut an der JKU Linz, we have been intensively involved in applied energy research internationally, nationally and regionally for many years. The new cooperation with the Future Energy Lab at the JKU will enable us to build directly on new results from basic research in the future and thus introduce new aspects for the transformation and think ahead. I am very pleased about the cooperation!” adds Robert Tichler, Managing Director of the Energieinstitut an der JKU Linz.

JKU Rector Prof Dr Stefan Koch: “In order to achieve the urgently needed energy transition, we need to build bridges between scientific disciplines, but we also need science, politics, business and society to join forces. The new endowed professorship in ‘Energy Economics and Applied Econometrics’ at the JKU’s Future Energy Lab, which was made possible together with the Energieinstitut an der JKU Linz, is an important step towards sustainably improving our energy management.”
