Tiefengeothermie Potential OÖ

Nutzung tiefer Geothermie in industriellen Prozessen

Project Description

An approach for the substitution of fossil fuels in the supply of low-temperature processes is geothermal energy. The geological conditions for this would be available in Upper Austria. Geothermal heat is available 24/7 and should be used as best as possible due to the high development costs. However, the current application for space heating and hot water only achieves low full-load hours and therefore only insufficiently exploits the potential of the thermal water. Due to the heat demand in industry, the full load hours could be increased and a larger temperature spread could be achieved through cascaded use in connection with preheating or drying processes, greenhouses or even room heating supply. This study is intended to investigate which Upper Austrian municipalities can participate in geothermal use to what extent in terms of thermal water temperatures, output and heat supply. In a further step, a potential is to be derived from this. The results should be presented clearly in the form of heat maps. After that, the structure of the Upper Austrian industry and its heat demand should be derived. Furthermore, research on possible industrial applications of geothermal heat is to be carried out in order to identify relevant sectors. In this way, the requirements for a geothermal supply of industrial processes are to be clarified. In addition, it should be shown which sectors in which areas of the pilot area in Upper Austria are of interest for geothermal use.
