Based on the weather observations of the past decades and the calculation results of current climate models, significant increases in annual and seasonal mean temperatures are to be expected in Austria. There is already an increasing trend towards equipping buildings with air conditioning units for room cooling. The question therefore arises as to how these trends affect the cooling energy requirement and what consequences can be expected for power grids with regard to peak loads. This question should be seen in connection with the planned rollout of photovoltaics (PV) for the decarbonization of the energy system, which also places certain demands on the power grids.
