“The overall goal of the project is to demonstrate underground hydrogen storage in depleted porous natural gas reservoirs at TRL-8.
The existing pilot plant in Rubensdorf (project USS-2030) will be further developed from TRL 6 to TRL 8 as part of the project. The four seasonal storage cycles with different usage profiles will be demonstrated.
In order to maximize the use of the project results for replication in other regions of Europe, recommendations for the best possible management of all environmental, legal and (future) regulatory, social and market-related aspects will be developed.
The potential of new hydrogen storage locations in Austria, the Netherlands, Hungary and Spain will be analyzed.
Finally, it will be examined how the hydrogen storage systems can be best integrated into the local, national and European energy infrastructure and the energy market.”
