LIGNOFLAG

Commercial flagship plant for bioethanol production involving a bio-based value chain built on lignocellulosic feedstock

Druck

Project Description

The main goal of the EU-funded project LIGNOFLAG is the construction of a first-of-its-kind commercial scale plant for the production of cellulosic ethanol from agricultural residues based on the innovative sunliquid® technology. The new flagship plant is located in Podari in the southwestern part of Romania. The Energieinstitut is quantifying the maximum greenhouse gas mitigation potential according to the European Renewable Energy Directive (RED) by life cycle assessment (LCA). Additionally, potential socio-economic impacts of establishing an advanced biofuel market are analyzed resulting in a combined process assessment including environmental, economic and societal aspects for the flagship plant realisation resulting in a sustainable product performance and market-uptake.
