In the AWARE@EI-JKU project, appropriate measures shall be taken to initiate a structural and cultural change at the Energieinstitut, which will lead to an improvement in equality. The “Gender & Equality” task force already in place at the institute and the Gender & Equality Plan (GEP) that has been drawn up provide the basis for this and represent the efforts to initiate corresponding changes in structures, processes and practices. In addition to the activities and measures already implemented (including the GEP), the Energieinstitut wishes to address existing challenges that are evident above all in the structural and cultural conditions in a scientific and technical environment. These have already been elicited in advance as part of an initial analysis by ÖGUT, which will also contribute its gender expertise to the project, in order to identify existing strengths and weaknesses with regard to structures and processes at the Energieinstitut. In the course of the project, the existing institute culture at the Energieinstitut as well as the attitude of the employees towards it will be surveyed. Based on these findings, long-term measures will be developed to create an attractive working environment in order to attract and retain highly qualified staff. With regard to personnel management and recruitment, the project places a clear focus on women at the Energieinstitut who work in a technically oriented scientific field. In addition, the project enables all employees to be sensitized to gender and diversity issues, which is also considered very valuable for daily project and research work in the national and international environment.
